IM NU

Soft Melodies / Instrumental Folk / Landscape Jazz

A sense of livng together, simplicity, subtlety and friendship. Im Nu’s music treads a fine line, capturing the uniqueness of everyday life without explicitly showcasing it. Someone silently slides an analogue photograph across the table and the scene in the photograph, the imagined context – that now belongs to you.

Interludes

Im Nu’s pieces, shaped by guitar, flugelhorn and drums, initially sound a little like the wood-panelled living room in which some of them were probably composed.
They come across as refined and well-considered, and also a somewhat exploratory yet inviting. As if you’ve been offered a chair and a drink.

Paul Butscher on the flugelhorn accompanies Philippe Vögeli (guitar), playing long lines, as in ‘Firn’, or supporting the melodies. The soundscape of this music is shaped by Xavier Kaeser’s percussions. At times, the drums sound like a campfire in the background (‘Der Erd Red’), at others like a dancing clock on (‘you never’).
And then, suddenly, the album slips into a somnambulistic, space-age version of itself: darker, rougher, less pleasant and less acoustic.

Yet all these pieces have one thing in common: they are echos of living together, simplicity, subtlety and friendship. The music treads a fine line, capturing the uniqueness of everyday life without explicitly showcasing it.
Someone silently slides an analogue photograph across the table and the situation depicted in the photograph, the imagination of its context – that now belongs to you.
